Private Residence, Little Deer Isle Maine

A native bold landscpe was the program for this contemporary home, playing the large volumes of the house off an expansive landscape full of broad strokes. The client’s love of gardening and interest in individual plants was incorporated into the concept by considering an area near the deck as a microcosm within the larger setting. Visual elements such as large ledge outcropings, expansive areas of native juniper and meadow were used in miniature to create a rock garden full of tiny moments of pleasure.

Meadow side of house.
Deck plantings are the microcosm of the larger landscape.
